EUROPEAN CITZENSHIP
HOW TO OBTAIN ITALIAN, SPANISH, PORTUGUESE, AUSTRIAN, OR BRAZILIAN CITIZENSHIP
The preparation of documents that prove your ancestry is the most important step in dual citizenship processes, whether it is for obtaining Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, Austrian, or Brazilian citizenship. Explore our services:
. Evaluation of your eligibility for the chosen citizenship, as laws differ from country to country. We will assess your ancestral lineage, as well as the possibility of citizenship through marriage and residency requirements in the country.
. Obtaining the documents of your ancestral lineage (ancestors until you), which is essential for the recognition of your rights. We conduct research on records, analyze certificates, verifying each one, and if necessary, retrieve and update the documents according to the current laws in both countries. We carry out administrative procedures with the civil registries to correct registration errors when necessary, and provide guidance on potential judicial rectifications that may be required. Judicial rectifications in the certificates occur when a civil registry in Brazil or another country does not accept making a correction/registration in a birth/marriage/death record administratively, requiring a legal process represented by a lawyer.
. Once you have all the documentation in hand, we proceed to the stage of translation and apostille, following the international procedures of the Hague Convention to ensure the validity of each piece. We have partners with extensive experience in sworn translation of documents into the necessary language, whether it is Italian, Portuguese, or Spanish. At the end of the service, you will have the complete process in your hands, with all the necessary documents for the recognition of your dual citizenship, formatted and standardized in accordance with the procedures and requirements of international authorities.
. Once the process folder is complete, the client should have chosen one of the following options for citizenship:
- Via consulate*
- Via residence in Italy*
- Via judicial process in Italy – in the case of maternal lineage, qualification of a descendant of a woman born before 1948 is required**
- Via judicial or administrative process in Spain, Portugal, Austria, or Brazil
*We accompany our clients in the registration process with the consulates (in the client’s country of residence) or in town halls/comunes or conservatories in Italy.
**Up to 10 people can be included in a folder that is delivered to a lawyer in Italy. Other relatives will be included in the same process, but in separate folders. We will monitor the work of the lawyer with the Italian judiciary, which lasts approximately two years, until the end. Our office in Rome has a long-standing relationship with the Italian lawyers who carry out this process, which greatly facilitates clarifying any doubts during the process.
Some clients choose to organize their folders on their own, without our assistance. We can only act at the end, when they already have all the documents, so that we can review the set and identify possible flaws that could compromise their dual citizenship applications, and then have them properly translated and apostilled. In the case of residency, you can rely on assistance from finding a rental property where you wish to reside, as well as support from your arrival in Italy to your home, and guidance throughout the process at the town hall/comune and other relevant organizations.
